Queen's Oro (Rock Doves)

queensoro_canon.jpg

I am sorry about this picture. It is not good. I know. But I am away from home and this is all I have on this computer. And it is home. And I miss home.

While standing on an elevated subway platform tonight I turned around, walked to the other side, looked over and saw at least 20 pigeons (aka rock doves) clustered together roosting along a metal ledge peppered with those metal pigeon-deterrent spikes. They can't be stopped. I love it.

Sitting in my hotel room right now. This decor is... insert generic hotel room, anywhere USA here. Missing home badly. I've really enjoyed a lot about the last few days but the introvert in me is ready to come down off of this intensely social roller coaster and get some time to process the many new faces and interactions.

And holy shit the surrealness. Honestly. At times I was certain I had fallen into the rabbit hole. I did not need your wacky reality television this time America. Oh you. Plus. PLUS. Breakfast sausages wrapped in pancakes. Available in your grocer's freezer. Iceberg lettuce, a green that is mostly water, inexplicably altered to taste... very not right.

Rock Doves in front of Queen's Oro

Another from the 35mm pics I took a while back.

Today is a cleaning day. I recently did a bunch of work on the roof garden. The amount of noodling I can find to do out there never ceases to surprise me. I go outside to snap a few shots of a developing zucchini or a read-to-harvest cucumber and without fail an hour has passed, my hands are dirty, and I still haven't taken the photo.

Prints available on etsy.

Scalp

I borrowed Davin's old Canon AE-1 on impulse last winter and stuck a roll of colour film in just for the heck of it. I just got the film developed. It was alright. Maybe I'll do it again. Maybe not. Could go either way, really. I'm on the fence with this one.

I'm just moments away from finishing David Sedaris' "Naked." This is his third book that I have read, all on long plane rides. It's become a tradition. My next trip is a roadtrip so no Sedaris book. I'm thinking it would be bad form to read while someone else drives. It is my job as the non-driver to navigate. Plus I am often compelled to keep my eyes glued to the scenery to ensure I don't miss something good.
