The sadness of the old Santa decoration didn't really come through in black and white. I also had to approach this window from an odd angle in order to get everything in and avoid too much glare. Unfortunately I think it works better in reverse (the way it is seen through the viewfinder). I'm so used to see things reversed it's not usually an issue but there is occassionally an image that I just can't recognize when I see the film later on.

I'm not sure what happened with this roll of b&w but there was a lot of mysterious light leaking. Thankfully all subsequent rolls have been fine.

Watched Over the Holiday:

  • Children of Men - I love a dystopia.

  • The Departed - We have seen the Chinese originals "Infernal Affairs 1&2."

  • The Beales of Grey Gardens - Not as good as I had hoped. It doesn't really hold it's own as a film in it's own right but is a nice add-on for anyone who loves the original "Grey Gardens" documentary.

  • Mozart & the Whale - Whatever. I just couldn't buy that they were two real people living with autism.

  • When the Levees Broke - See Davin's write-up.

  • The Devil Wears Prada - Boring as all... And PLEASE with the lame morality tale already.

  • Freaks and Geeks - The entire series. This was a gift from Davin. I may have over-indulged as I experienced several high school related dreams following our marathon viewing.

  • Half Nelson - I liked it but am not sure what to say about it.

  • The Promise - Terrible.

  • The Descent - They almost had me until that stupid ending.

  • Prime Suspect Season II

  • 49 UP - I couldn't make it to the end. I think I'm off this series. I find that because the same questions are asked it tends to homogenize people too much. It's got to be a hard thing to live with since it tends to chronicle people's failures. I imagine there is a lot of internal pressure to "perform" and "improve" in the years between shooting.

  • The House of Sand - Gorgeous landscapes. What an amazing place that would be to visit.

  • What did you watch?
